Overview of our motors

OUR AIR MOTORS

"When selecting an air motor the working range for the application must first be determined, i.e. the required power, speed as well as torque. It is most economical to operate the air motor at its load speed."

Stall resistant air motors

"Stall resistant air motors can be operated up to the respective maximum torque. When the maximum torque is reached the air motor automatically comes to a standstill. This does not cause any damage to the air motor. If the air motor is brought to a standstill by a hard stop, high back torques occur. This can cause damage to the gearbox if used continuously. In the case of such an application please contact us for advice."

Air motors with brake

"The MUB 17 and MUB 23 series motors are equipped with a friction locked holding brake. This is actuated directly with the supply air line of the air motor. No additional control line is required. The maximum holding force of the holding brake of the air motor is equal to the starting torque. The MUB 300, 400 and 600 series are equipped with a spring loaded friction brake. The holding brake is controlled via a separate control line, which must be switched so that it releases earlier than the air motor receives working air. The control line of the holding brake must be released with at least 4.8 bar pressure (control line depressurised = holding brake fixed)."

Non stall resistant air motors

These motors are designed for use at very slow speeds, with a small design and low load torques. This maximum permissible torque must not be exceeded as this may result in damage to the motor. These motors are only specified with an idle speed, as the speed below the maximum permissible torque is approximately constant and does not drop.

High torque air motors

The high torque motors are standard motors of the respective series with an additional reduction gear. This enables a high torque to be achieved at a low speed. The air consumption is as low as with a standard motor. The gearboxes are robust, have a high continuous output torque and can be used up to standstill (stalling torque).

Air motors from A to Z

Exhaust air oil separator

An air motor achieves an optimum service life when it is operated with oil. If no oil mist is desired at the place of use and the possibility of a long exhaust air hose is not available, we recommend the installation or mounting of an exhaust air de-oiler. The oil escaping from the air motor with the exhaust air is led into the exhaust air oil separator and collected (oil filtration up to 99 %). Clean, unoiled air flows into the environment. Depending on the installation, noise reduction of up to 40 dB(A) is achieved at the same time.

Output variants

On request, we can supply various flange / output variants such as hole sizes, diameters, etc. according to your requirements profile.

Stall resistant motors | Non stall resistant motors

Stall resistant motors can be operated up to standstill, i.e. stopping the motor while it is running and the pressure applied will not cause any damage to the motor and gearbox.

Non stall resistant motors cannot be operated to standstill, i.e. only up to the max. specified torque. To ensure that the permissible torque is not exceeded we recommend fitting an overload clutch / torque limiter. For the max. permissible torques please refer to the technical data.

Flange variants

Air motors are supplied with a flange or a top cover as standard. With the top cover version the motors are clamped by means of a suitable foot flange.

ATEX - EX-protection air motors

MANNESMANN DEMAG explosion proof air motors comply with the European directives 2014/34/EU (ATEX) and are assigned to equipment class II zone 1,2 and zone 21,22.

The explosion proof air motors of equipment group II, equipment category 2G (gas) or equipment category 2GD (dust and gas) are approved for use in zone 1 (gas) and zone 21 (gas and dust). These zones include areas in which an explosive atmosphere consisting of gases, vapours, dust or mist is likely to occur occasionally.

Operating pressure

All listed performance data of the motors relate to an operating pressure of 6.3 bar. A reduction of the operating pressure results in a reduction of performance. This can be used in specific applications to adapt the motor perfectly to the conditions.

Direction of rotation - Compressed air connection

Clockwise | anticlockwise air motors = types MRD, MLD
If the motor is operated with a speed throttle or a silencer, it is mounted via the exhaust air via the exhaust air connection of the motor. The supply air that is not required is closed at the factory. Note: It is not possible to change the connection from anticlockwise rotation to clockwise rotation or clockwise rotation to anticlockwise rotation!

Direct to our products

Reversible motors - Type MUD
With the MUD series an additional speed throttle or silencer can be connected to the motor. Note: With the MUD series the exhaust air is divided approx. 2/3 via the exhaust air connection and 1/3 via the non-pressurised side. Reversible air motors can be operated in the left or right direction of rotation. For proper operation make sure that the non-pressurised side is vented.

Under no circumstances should this side be closed.. In the worst case, the air motor will not start!

Stainless steel air motors

Stainless steel air motors are preferred for use in the food and chemical industries. They are resistant to aggressive cleaning agents or corrosive air. All external parts are made of stainless steel.

The following steels are used:
Air inlet, housing, cover, flange X10 Cr Ni S 18-9

Shaft drive X10 CrNiS18-9 as well as X17CrNi16-2

Motors with brake - holding brake

The motors of the MUB 23 series are equipped with a friction locked holding brake.

The control line of the holding brake must be pressurised to at least 4.8 bar pressure (control line depressurised = holding brake fixed).

Oil free motors

If the compressed air is completely dry, without any oil added, the idle speed may drop depending on the running time of the air motor. If the compressed air contains oil, the functionality is not affected. The service life of the blades even increases considerably. For shift operation and continuous use it is recommended to select an oil free air motor and to oil it.

Non oil free air motors, on the other hand, must be oiled with approx. 2 - 3 drops of oil / minute. The excess oil can be filtered through an exhaust air de-oiler.

Silencer

The mechanical running noise of an air motor is very minimal. Expanding exhaust air is largely responsible for the noise generated by air motors. To reduce the exhaust air noise level dB(A) a silencer can be screwed into the exhaust air bore of the MRD and MUD air motor series. On the air motor series MUB 23 this is achieved by means of a sintered disc. The sound pressure level is therefore strongly dependent on the type of silencer used. See also exhaust air oil separator

Lubricants

As lubricating oil: Use resin and acid free oil of viscosity class HL 32. As lubricating grease: multipurpose grease for rolling and plain bearings and gears, resin and acid free NLGI class: 2 | Saponification type: lithium | Drop point: 185 °C | Work penetration: 265 - 295

For use in the food industry:
Food grade oil, oil according to NSF-H1 or FDA 178.3570 viscosity class 32 Lubricating grease: NSF-H1 or FDA 178.3570, NLGI class: 2 - DIN 51818

Maintenance unit

The reliability / service life of the air motor is guaranteed / extended by installing a maintenance unit. The closer this is fitted to the motor the greater the efficiency. If the maintenance unit is further than 3 m from the motor it must be checked whether the air motor is supplied with sufficient oil due to the switch on cycles. Recommended: a maintenance unit consisting of a compressed air regulator, mist lubricator and water separator. However, it must be ensured that the flow cross section (air flow rate) is at least as large as that of the air motor. (Air flow) is at least as large as the air consumption of the engine.
